Where the money actually goes
The court system (steel frame, tempered glass, mesh, turf, net) is $30,000 to $50,000. Installation adds $5,000 to $15,000. Those two lines are stable wherever you build, because the court arrives in the same container.
What moves is the ground. Foundations and site preparation run $25,000 to $50,000 per court, and that single line explains almost the entire spread between a $50,000 quote and a $120,000 one. The UK's Lawn Tennis Association publishes £35,000 for a single-court ring beam, base and drainage, an institutional figure that corroborates the upper end.
Lighting is $8,000 to $18,000 per court for a commercial system; the club-grade standard is eight 200-watt fixtures delivering 300 lux. Permitting and engineering add $2,000 to $12,000, and vary more by jurisdiction than by project.

- How much does a padel court cost to build?
- On an existing suitable slab, roughly $50,000 per court all-in. Requiring new foundations takes it to $100,000. Indoor runs 20–40% above outdoor before the building envelope. The enclosure alone is 40–60% of total project cost.
- Why do quotes vary so much?
- Almost entirely because of what is included. A court kit on an existing slab is $40,000–$55,000. Add earthworks, slab, drainage, lighting and permits and the same court reaches $85,000–$120,000. Always ask which line items a quote contains.
- Do multi-court projects cost less per court?
- Yes. Mobilisation, site survey and permitting are project-level costs, so they divide across courts. Economies of scale become material from four courts up.
- Does leasing a court cost more than buying one?
- Over the full term, yes. That is the price of time. What it buys is the first year: you open without putting $50,000 to $120,000 per court on the table, and you keep that cash for the opening, the staff and the first months of trading.
